As seen in movies through the decades, characters can only be declared dead when their lifeless bodies are shown onscreen. In most cases, when a character falls, no matter the height and especially into water, they are guaranteed to return for final twist. Throughout the musical and movie Les Miserables, characters who die are consistently shown dead such as Fantine, Eponine, and Valjean. One character is notably absent from the bodies- Javier. Horrified by his actions, Javier did commit suicide but fell from a great height into water. If movies have taught us anything, it's that water does not feel as hard as concrete when hit at a great height and speed. This lack of a body must mean that Javier is in fact alive and in hiding, still ashamed of his past mistakes.
